Saturday, January 8, 2011

After having a pretty intense work week, packed with positive vibes and a date night Friday last night, I woke up with a sore throat and totally feeling crappy. I tried brushing it off this morning by moving around, shredding some receipts and papers, cleaning the bedrooms and cooking lunch for my boys. (Yummy beef stroganoff for lunch!)

I am really blessed coz I think I'm feeling a little better now. Plus the fact that our lovely neighbor took the time to prepare freshly-baked bread, goulash, fruit salad and velvet cake just because and send it over here. I think I was a little pampered and it was right on time that I'm needing to feel loved and appreciated. My husband would make sure of that but since it has been cold, we've hardly hang out with friends lately, it was nice to know that despite the fact that I don't have much family around here that we still have friends, real friends who cares and look after us and vis-a-vis.

It is so nice to spend the weekend like this; something that is truly memorable and I treasure most.

My Brunch

When I got married, my husband and I had our own terms and conditions, he will cook and I'll do the other chores. Luckily, haven't heard any complain for 3 years now. :-) He is a great cook, it's in his blood I guess, being American-Italian to be able to make really good and simple dishes a bam! Here's a pic of my brunch today. He would always cook extra at night so I can heat it up for our lunch. :-)

Macaroni & Cheese, Shake & Bake Chicken (Bbq Flavor) and Green Peas

Good Karma

I came across The Karma Experiment through Chris Brogan on twitter. It is a non-profit organization which aims to promote the selfless giving of valuable items to the Facebook community in exchange for teaching others how to give.

Today as a way to start this year right, I posted the first item on their fanpage to be given away to anyone who wants it (they're bangles, not that much but it is really nice and never been used at all) in exchange for that person to give something as well.

I felt good doing that and I think it's a good way to reach out to people and learn to value "karma" and "trust."

An Open Letter

Dear Fuzzy Wuzzy,

I love you.
You are my pride and joy.
You make me happy, you make me sad.
You make me mad, you make me glad.
I never hated you but son,you got to learn
Life's greatest lesson - respect, honesty and love
I want you to become a good-hearted man
with self-dignity and respect for others.
Please always know, I will put a fight for you.
Again, I love you and I am sorry if I have been impatient sometimes.

They're taking it away from me.
I am breaking down.
I don't want to be in this position.
I don't want the love for life to fade away.
I need to go and trace back the path that I took,
where I first started and led me to here.
I need to gain back the persistence, the goal and purpose
of my existence.

It is time. I want my old life back,
when I was once inspired, motivated and passionate.

Busch Gardens vs. Ocracoke Island (Birthday Dilemma)

Can we go to both places, pretty please?! Argh...It's a battle in my head, my husband have asked me where do I want to go this time for my birthday? I know we've got one thing lined up for October so something that I would want to do on my birthday shouldn't be so grand at all. (Knowing that I'm the one whose gonna end up paying, lol!)

HELP!!! Any suggestions?! :-(

Making a difference

I did it! I have finished a week ago my Management course for my MBA degree at University of Phoenix School of Business OLS. Just a little disappointed on my final exams but all in all I knew I did great. Such a sense of fulfillment to know that the experiences I've shared to our class is greatly appreciated and recognized. The eagerness to learn and improve our way of living has been my constant inspiration in making a difference in life; all for the love of my family. We'll see this next six (6) weeks how it'll go, hoping it will be a little easy.

To God be the Glory!

I think I've been the meanest and worst wife yesterday. I didn't give my husband the day to enjoy and know that he's loved and he's well-acknowledged as a father and a husband in this family. I do appreciate everything that he has done for all of us. I love him with all my heart and all my life. I was just too sensitive thinking that he didn't appreciate what I have planned for him.

Oh well, I did tried to make it up for him. Gave him foot massages for a couple of nights now, he comes home to a clean house, food is cooked and served and chores are done. I also got him some of his wishlist and I hope he likes it. I love you Daddy! Happy Father's Day again! Mwah... :-)

Random conversation with my husband (Father's Day wish)

Everytime there's an occassion my husband hardly tells me what he wants or should I say he would always say to me "Darling, I don't need anything! I'm content!" or most of the time he would joke about it and say, "You know what I want, I want peace!" lol! "Yeah, like I can give it to him, right?"hahaha. He cracks me up! It's nice to know that he's content but also it irritates me sometimes, especially if I wanted to get him something, he'd always spoil the fun and excitement that I get from doing something nice for him. He doesn't like surprises whilst I long for all the time. Lol. Yes, you can call us an extreme couple but despite our differences, things does work out for the two of us.

Yesterday, for the first time, he told me that he knows now what he wanted for Father's Day. And I said, "Oh yeah?! What is it?" He said, " I want a money clipper with lots of money in it!" I looked at him and he looked at me and we both laugh. I think it's cute. So yes, I will try to fulfill that, although I already got him a new PUMA sneakers as a pre-Father's Day gift.
On Father's Day we'll have a picnic at the park as we listen to the NC Symphony Orchestra at Roanoke Island Festival Park,Manteo,NC and a date night on Sunday at Kelly's Restaurant in Nags Head.

I will update you about it! :-) Time to go to bed, big doings tomorrow, meetings, presentation and school! Fun, fun, fun! lol.

I super LOVE ♥ ♥ ♥ La Piola Ristorante

Since the start of Spring 2010 here in OBX, we've been trying to check out La Piola Ristorante in Southern Shores to see if it's already opened. We were hoping that it'll also be a good restaurant just like the Meridian 42(according to friends, which I didn't get the chance to try),which used to be that place, considering the fact there's not much restaurants around according to my taste palette which offers unique and tasteful cuisines.

The long wait is finally over, we were at La Piola last night. Yay!!! Skeptic at first,so my Italian sweet creme husband went inside to see the menu first. He was greeted by an Italian guy with a smile and a warning, we only accept cash and personal checks because of some POS issues. So I looked at the menu, a little pricey, thinking twice, what the heck,we've been looking forward for this day so in we go.

The service is still kinda slow, but all in all, I think the whole menu is superb. I love it soo much!!! How many restaurants can convince a 3 year old to munch on artichoke hearts,I mean come on, none that I know of here in OBX!!!

Pro: Superb Menu and the wine is awesome
Con: Slow service (which is typical on a startup resto, they'll eventually pick it up easily once they're used to OBX sense of urgency)

Must Try: Mussels in Marinara Sauce, Artichoke Hearts with lemon dip sauce, Veal dishes and Mediterranean Salad

Memorial Day Weekend!

Lately I've been so enthusiastic on getting myself and my family involved in local community events. I've been adding Facebook fan pages of local businesses for different events and promos. Luckily,I've been winning stuff while doing such, ain't that cool?

Two weeks ago, one of the prizes that I've won were tickets for two on a Music and Wine Fest held at Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg,NC last Memorial Day Weekend. It features local vineyards producing top of the line wines with some food concessionaires, artisans' collections for sale and live music.I am not a big fan of wine so for me it'll be a challenge for me to appreciate that event but it'll be fun coz it's free. It was a very quiet event I must say. Very few who came when we got there. I was kinda looking forward to a more interactive and fun fest but people are so reserved. :-) I did enjoyed taking pictures though and brought home unique pieces of Viva Beads earrings and a bottle of Snow Goose Wine from Martin's Vineyard (I love this wine!).

Earlier that day, we took our lil one to The Digger's Dungeon to see Dennis Anderson a.k.a. The Grave Digger, and have Fuzzy Wuzzy's shirt signed. He's so thrilled and adorable just waiting patiently in line for his turn. We even took him for a ride on one of those monster trucks and man, it was awesome. Makes me want to drive that thing. hahaha!

We tried to enjoy that weekend so much because it's the only holiday besides Labor Day that we'll have being here in the US. (It sucks to be me!) All in all, it was very unforgettable. Although some people may not know what Memorial Day really meant, I hope the spirit is still there. A day of paving way to the service men and women here in the US who have served the country.

Salad Fix

I can still remember when I was still young and single that I have never been a health conscious type of person. And my reason, "I don't get fat at all no matter what I eat or do!" lol. Then I had Matty, things have changed dramatically because of my sensitive pregnancy; just knowing that I'm caring for another human being in my womb makes me more conscious than I've ever been.

I'm a rice-head type of Asian, not a fish-head if you know what I mean?lol. For years of my existence, I have eaten and can eat rice forever - from breakfast, lunch, snack to dinner. But things have changed when I got married and settled here in the US. I have learned to eat rice once a week and substitute it with mashed potatoes or fries instead. It was a gruelling transition for me,lol!(Imagine that!hahaha)But I have learned to embraced the little things that makes US different from where I came from.

Greek Salad - The Magnolia Grille,Manteo,NC

Grilled Steak Salad -Nags Head Pier House Resto, Nags Head,NC

Lately, I'm going loco over salads and to me I guess the freshness of the produce and the variety of dressings available here in the US have made it so appealing for my palette.

There's two places here in OBX where I would totally entrust having my salad fix and for me the ambiance alone, plating of the salad and the taste makes the whole experience unique and unforgettable. And if you ever get a chance to come and visit OBX,NC don't forget to look for these places, Nags Head Pier House Resto and The Magnolia Grille. They will truly satisfy any of your salad cravings. :-) At least I know mine did.
